These are the things that folks help out with so that the worship services “happen”. There are:
- those who greet you at the door, hand out bulletins and provide directions (greeters);
- those who help you find a seat, assist with an orderly flow of people coming forward for communion and take up the offering (ushers);
- those who assist the priest with handling the communion elements (acolyte or server)
- those who read the appointed scriptures for the day (readers or lectors)
- those who serve the wine during communion (eucharistic assistants)
- those under the guidance and direction of the priest, who occasionally lead worship and/or preach (lay readers)
- those who ensure that the altar is set for communion using the proper cloths, dishes, wafers and wine (Altar Guild)
